| Work – An integral part of Rehabilitation |
Work is an important component in the rehabilitative process for offenders.
The work programme imparts vocational and employability skills through on-the-job training. Work also inculcates
positive work ethics in the inmates. Through immersing in a real work environment, inmates learn discipline and
positive values. These will help them rejoin the workforce and reintegrate into society when they are released.

| Work – Generating Income for Rehabilitation |
Apart from providing inmates with important work skills and ethics, the prison industries
are used to generate revenue and income to fund SCORE’s rehabilitation programmes. As a self-funded statutory
board, it is crucial that SCORE generates a steady stream of income so that rehabilitative projects are not derailed
due to the lack of resources. Using a self-help model, inmates therefore contribute and support their own rehabilitation
programmes through their work activities.
|
| Work – Contributing to Prison Security |
By keeping inmates gainfully occupied during their incarceration, SCORE’s
work programme also contributes to overall prison security.
|
| Partnership with the Private Sector |
The above three objectives of SCORE's work programme are achieved through close partnership with the private sector.
We aim to support and collaborate with private enterprises that can use the prison work programme
for part of their manufacturing and production process. Instead
of competing with the private enterprises, SCORE invites them to
relocate their labor-intensive work processes inside the Prisons
to better manage their costs; and at the same time participate
in the rehabilitation of offenders. |
